🌼 Blooming Onion – crispy fried onion blossom

Kira Zabe

Preparation
Prepare the onion:
Peel the onion but leave the root end intact. With a sharp knife, make several vertical cuts from the top down – like a flower, but do not cut all the way through! Then gently separate the 'petals'.
Prepare the breading:
Mix flour with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. In a second bowl, whisk together egg and milk.
Breading the onion:
First, roll the onion in the flour mixture (also between the layers), then pull it through the egg-milk mixture and coat it in flour again. Tip: For extra crispiness, dip it in the egg once more and then in the flour again!
Frying:
In a large pot, heat plenty of oil to about 170 °C. Carefully add the onion and fry for about 7–10 minutes until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain on kitchen paper.
Prepare the dip:
Mix all the ingredients for the dip and season to taste.
Serve
Serve the crispy onion blossom with the dip – perfect as finger food or a snack for guests!
